Condominium Insurance basics
Condominium insurance provides coverage for your unit where your condominium association insurance stops. Your association typically insures the building and other common areas. You are responsible for the interior of your unit (from the drywall in). You need personal property and liability coverage in addition to coverage for your floors, walls, cabinets and fixtures that your association’s insurance will not cover.
Every association’s insurance policy is different regarding what each unit owner is responsible for, so it is important to review your association policy and condominium by-laws carefully.
What type of policy do I need for my townhome?
If there’s a townhome association, and their policy covers the outer walls and roof of the townhomes, then you will need a condo policy. If each townhome owner is responsible for the roof and outer walls, a homeowners policy will be required. We can help sort this out for you.
